Caen and Caen-la-Mer urban area
By plane
The Caen-Carpiquet airport has daily flight in and out of Lyon, hub to many European destinations. City bus will take you from the airport to Caen downtown area (Twisto line 3).

Once at the ferry terminal, use the Twisto bus line 12 to get to Caen (~20 minute ride – €1,60).

Twisto
Twisto is the network of the urban community of Caen la Mer. It offers 3 tram lines, as well as numerous bus lines. This network covers the whole territory, and allows you to get to the sea in 30 minutes.

The NOMAD bus network
To travel outside the territory of Caen la Mer, it is possible to use the Nomad network. This is the Normandy mobility network that brings together all regional transport (excluding urban and school transport). This network therefore offers travel by train and bus, but also transport on demand and carpooling.

Bikes
Cycle paths are being developed in Caen la Mer, and getting around by bike is becoming a popular solution. In addition to the many existing cycle facilities, a cycle ring road is being built around the Caen area to make travelling by bike even easier.

In addition, there is a self-service bicycle system, available 24/7.
On UNICAEN campuses, you can find different university restaurants and cafeterias. In order to pay your meals, you can use your Léocarte thanks to the Izly app. For detailed information and operating hours, please refer to the CROUS Normandie website.

University restaurants serve lunch and diner. Breakfast can be taken in the different cafeterias. Meals can be paid by credit card or with your Izly (payment with your Leocarte or with the Izly smartphone App).

- Cap Cotentin
Cap Cotentin is the transport company for all the Cotentin area. If you want to travel inside the city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, or discover the surroundings, Cap Cotentin is the right option. The network will allow you to go to many places, thanks to the 13 regular bus lines, in addition to the 12 complementary bus lines.

- Bikes
There are many cycle paths that you can use in the Cotentin area, inside the city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, but also outside, in order to discover this wonderful region.
In the city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, there are 37kms of cycle paths. Cap Cotentin has also launched a bike rental system. You can rent your electric bike for 3, 6 or even 12 months.

Practical information
Consultation with a general practitioner costs €25.
In case of an emergency, just dial 15 on any phone (toll-free number) to be in touch with the emergency services.
There are several hospitals in Caen and Cherbourg with an Emergency unit where you can go if necessary, especially at night or on weekends. Otherwise, always consult with a general practitioner first.
In case of hospitalization, make sure that you have your insurance documents with you so you don’t have to advance the payment when leaving the hospital (always very expensive).

Also, if you simply pick-up any green phones marked « urgences médicales » in the hallways of University buildings, you will be on line with the emergency services (SAMU).
Internet access is available on all campuses (wifi) and in University residences (wifi or wired internet; make sure to bring a RJ45 cable). UNICAEN and CROUS residences also have computer rooms that you can access with your student card.
REMINDER: the French electrical standard is 230 volts. Make sure that your electronic devices are compatible with that standard.
Internet access on campus is secured by your personal digital account provided with your Leocarte. If you are coming from an institution using Eduroam, you can access our wifi network using your home credentials.
If you live off-campus, check with your landlord if internet access is provided and included or if you need to sign-up with a local internet provider.
